Trash bags and bags to dispose of leaves & yard trimmings are an expensive product that is going to be used once and placed in the landfill. A great alternative to these products is reusing your bags from things like the water softner pellets or heating stove wood pellets. These are sturdy plastic bags that hold approximately 40lbs of pellets. These reused bags provide you with a sturdy bag to hold the trash, leaves, or yard trimmings while not creating another plastic bag (petroleum product) to enter the landfill. The great part is that you also save the money in which you would have paid for the trash bag. We do not suggest reusing bags from mulch. These bags do not empty out completely. And the left over mulch in the bag can cause a big mess and odor.

Smaller trash bags can be made from using the grocery store bags. These are a lighter weight plastic. Caution should be used if these trash cans will contain liquid waste as many grocery bags contain small holes. A big mess can result in the bottom of the trash can in this case.
