Web Page Building

With your Dragon Internet account you have 10MB of personal web space already activated and ready to use. Here are some steps to help you get started:

First, create the web page.  Web pages can be created with a simple text editor or with a complicated web authoring software.  That choice is up to you.  

For information on creating your first webpage go to any search engine including http://www.yahoo.com/ and search for information on webpage creation or html coding.

Once the web page is created it will need to be uploaded to our server via FTP.  FTP software is available on any Windows machine by going to a DOS or Command prompt and typing FTP.  This is a very crude version of ftp that will work but is difficult to use.  You can also use an FTP client such as SmartFTP or Cute FTP. The address you would use to log into the FTP server is www.dragonbbs.com. You do not include the word members or you directory name as part of the address. (Your directory name is your username). When you put your username and password into the FTP server, it will ensure that your files end up in the proper directory. Make sure to use the same username and password that you use to connect to the internet with.

Some hints for writing your web page.

• Having trouble getting your graphics to show up on your page?  Remember when you are working with the page on your computer you are telling it where the graphic is located relative to your computer.  When you upload it, the location is now relative to the internet.  So if you are the owner of www.dragonbbs.com/members/jimbob55 and you are trying to show art.gif then you would refer to its location in your web page as being http://www.dragonbbs.com/members/jimbob55/art.gif .  This is assuming that you have uploaded your graphic to your FTP site.

• In order to access the opening page first, it should be named default.htm.  An example of an address for this type of web site is www.dragonbbs.com/members/jimbob55.    If you choose another name for the page the address must be www.dragonbbs.com/members/jimbob55/pagename.htm in order for the browser to access it first.

  Here are a few rules you will need to go by:

  1. No adult material. What is or is not considered adult material will be left up to the sole discretion of Dragon BBS and its management.

  2. No commercial material. (This includes EBay pages) You may not sell or advertise any product or service on this personal web page. If you are interested in a commercial web site follow this link for Information on Commercial Web Hosting.

  3. We will not write or help you write your personal web page. 

  4. We are not responsible for what your page contains or for the safety of that data. KEEP A BACKUP!  If something happens to the server our responsibility will be to replace/repair the server and make your web space available to you again.
